Why: Damsels in Excess shows how to do flashbacks right.
Since starting to read Damsels in Excess, I find myself loving the story after every page turn. The manga style is top notch for non-Japanese creators and they do the style right. The one thing going against it I think is that this issue introduces new characters which tie into other characters back stories. Since we are in the middle of the story, I’m hoping that they play a significant role in the action to come. The colors again are fantastic and really set the mood for every scene. For people just jumping on-board with this issue, I feel like the writer could use more full or nickname call-outs. It’s hard to place who’s who if you don’t even know their names. It’s a blessing again that the art is good and characters are very different from one another. Overall, I enjoyed it and I would recommend this comic to any comic fan.
Two Things I Loved
- Have a mentioned that the artwork in Damsels in Excess is still awesome?
- This issues’ twists keep me engaged and waiting for the next issue.
Two Things I Hated
- I broke the middle page binding from the staple. Argh! I’d like to say it’s because the publisher used cheap inexpensive paper but really all I have to blame is myself.
- Queen Valeria looks like an ice queen on the cover. However; she hasn’t displayed those powers yet. Either the artist is trying to gain a few more bucks from the whole Frozen fanaticism or this is a spoiler! Either reasons are ugly.
